Major Elbert Nieva Laza is the Flight Commander, 624th Regional Support Group, Force Support Flight, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Hawaii. He provides force support level support to the Commander who is responsible the largest Air Force Reserve presence in the Pacific. The group consists of nearly 650 combat-ready Airmen who specialize in aerial port, aeromedical support, and civil engineering operations for worldwide employment. Major Laza graduated from the University of Hawaii – West Oahu in 2004, and commissioned through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. Prior to joining the Air Force, he served for five years as an enlisted Indirect-fire Infantryman in the Army Reserve, Fort Shafter, Hawaii. During Major Laza’s first assignment, he served as Deputy Military Personnel Flight Commander at Altus Air Force Base. He was also Squadron Section Commander and Military Personnel Section Chief at Beale Air Force Base, Calif., which supported Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance missions conducted by the United States Air Force U-2 Dragon Lady and Global Hawk aircraft. In 2010, Maj Laza served as the J1 for the United States Army Corps of Engineers while deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan Additionally, he served as the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator for the 451st Expeditionary Wing in Kandahar, Afghanistan, and the 386th Expeditionary Wing.
