Air Force Reserve doctor volunteers at science fair

Lt. Col. Nathan Kwon, right, a Critical Care Air Transport Team (CCATT) physician with the 624th Aeromedical Staging Squadron, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, talks to Nathan, left, a high school student, about his research project at the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools (HAIS) District Science & Engineering Fair held at Ioloni School, Honolulu, Hawaii, Feb. 8, 2014. Kwon, a judge at the fair, said Nathan demonstrated a clear understanding about the complex protocol and modified it with his own ideas. Nathan said, “My project was trying to find natural products—extracts from plants and organisms—to see if they had any effect on a specific protein known as RSK2. The ultimate goal of this was to try and find new drugs and patients diagnosed with cancer have more options for treatment.” (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt. Phyllis Keith)
