Air Force Reserve doctor volunteers at science fair

Lt. Col. Nathan Kwon, left, a Critical Care Air Transport Team (CCATT) physician with the 624th Aeromedical Staging Squadron, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, presents an achievement award on behalf of his Air Force Reserve unit to a high school student, Anna, right, at the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools (HAIS) District Science & Engineering Fair held at Ioloni School, Honolulu, Hawaii, Feb. 8, 2014. Kwon, a judge at the fair, chose Anna’s project, “Identifying a Gene Responsible for Maturation of Dendritic Cells of the Mammalian Immune System,” for the sophistication of her research in the field of medicine. Anna not only advanced to the state-level competition, but was one of two students selected to attend the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) in Los Angeles, Calif., in May—the world’s largest international pre-college science competition.
