SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas – Open enrollment for the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program is almost here, and for the first time, TRICARE-eligible retirees and their families can sign up for FEDVIP coverage.

Active-duty family members can also sign up for FEDVIP’s vision insurance.

According to the 82nd Medical Group, information brochures will go out mid- to late-October, but the information is already available online at https://tricare.benefeds.com/InfoPortal/indexAction.

Open enrollment for coverage to begin Jan. 1, 2019, is from Nov. 12, 2018 through Dec. 10, 2018.

Ten dental carriers have 15 programs to choose from including national, international and regional programs; Aetna Dental; Delta Dental; FEP BlueDental; GGEHA; MetLife; United Concordia Dental; Dominion Dental; EmblemHealth, Humana and Triple-S Saud.

The TRICARE Retiree Dental Program ends on Dec. 31, 2018. Those enrolled in TRDP must choose a dental plan through FEDVIP to have coverage in 2019. Enrollment is not automatic. Today’s announcement affects 1.63 million beneficiaries enrolled in TRDP and offers a choice to an additional 1.3 million eligible retired beneficiaries not currently enrolled in TRDP.

Eligible customers will also have four vision carriers with eight vision plans to choose from including Aetna; FEP BlueVision; UnitedHealthcare Vision; and VSP Vision Care. This comprehensive vision coverage, including eyeglasses or contacts, is in addition to the routine eye examination benefit that many beneficiaries have under TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select.

The TRICARE website listed above also has a Plan Comparison Tool available for customers to use look at multiple plans.
