IN FOCUS: Master Sgt. Jaylene Cadiente Published July 8, 2012 By Bryan MagaƱa Contributor, 624th Regional Support Group Public Affairs JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii -- Master Sgt. Jaylene Cadiente, health service technician in the 624th Aeromedical Staging Squadron, is focused on keeping members of the 624th Regional Support Group medically ready to deploy. Born and raised in Honolulu, she joined the Air Force Reserve in 1998. I recently sat down with Cadiente to learn more about her professional and personal life. Tell me about your job. We assess the health of the wing. My whole focus is on the member's medical requirements, so I assist with coordinating physical exams, preventive medicine, counseling, line of duties, and medical evaluation boards. Why did you join the Air Force Reserve? One day, soon after high school, I walked into the recruiter's office at the mall and I was sold. One reason I joined is because of the education benefits. How are you utilizing the education benefits? I'm working on my bachelor's degree in health care management. I should be finished in November. Through the Post-9/11 GI Bill, I plan to pursue a master's degree in public health or mental health--we'll see. How do you spend your free time? I hike with my daughter, go to the beach, and hang out with family every Saturday and Sunday. I have lots of family in the area. What's the last thing you watched on YouTube? I looked up videos on the metabolism, because I'm studying the digestive system in human anatomy and I had to write a paper. What's the most creative thing you've done in the past year? Probably cooking. I don't like to cook, but it's like an experiment. I try new recipes. Who inspires you? My father inspires me because he's wise. He's more about logic than feelings, and he taught me to keep on learning no matter what age you are.
