Col. Maynard "Max" Mendoza assumed command of the 624th Regional Support Group during a ceremony held Sept. 8, 2012 at the Missing Man Formation, Aloha Aina Park, here.

Distinguished visitors in attendance included Brig. Gen. Joseph Kim, deputy adjutant general Hawaii National Guard, Brig. Gen. Pamela Milligan, vice commander 4th Air Force, Robert Borek, Hawaii state chairman for the Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve, and Col. John Roscoe, 15th Wing commander.

Maj. Gen. Mark A. Kyle, 4th Air Force commander, presided over the ceremony which transferred the 624th RSG guidon and command to Colonel Mendoza.

Upon assuming command Colonel Mendoza promised his support of the group's partnerships with 4th Air Force, the 15th Wing and the Air Force in general.

"I have narrowed down my goals to one word - readiness," said Colonel Mendoza. "Readiness in terms of mission readiness, resource readiness, family readiness, inspection readiness, and combat readiness; we will be ready, all the time."

Prior to assuming command, Colonel Mendoza performed double duty as the Commander of the 610th Regional Support Group and the Director, Installation and Mission Support, Headquarters 10th Air Force, at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth (Carswell Field), Texas. During his career he was deployed in support of Operations Fiery Vigil, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

Colonel Mendoza is now responsible for managing the largest Air Force Reserve presence in the Pacific, which is comprised of six units in Hawaii and Guam. The group provides combatant commanders more than 650 combat-ready Airmen who specialize in aerial port, aeromedical staging, civil engineering and security forces operations for worldwide deployment.
